Community Planning

The North Group works with the arts organizations in a community, region, or state to create financial based cultural plans which position cultural organizations to develop a base of support in the public sector and to fundraise more effectively in the private sector. These studies have included the evaluation of starting or rejuvenating united arts funds. Cultural plans have included:

Cultural Development Action Plan 2002-2007: The Future of the Arts in Northwest Arkansas – a cultural vision to stimulate arts and cultural growth in Northwest Arkansas
Under the auspices of Walton Arts Center, Halsey and Alice facilitated a regional planning process which resulted in plans for a regional arts council, cultural district, presenting endowment to book in more prominent shows and renowned artists, art museum, augmented and enriched educational programming and, as audiences grow, a new 2,200-seat theater.

Under the auspices of the Montgomery County Arts & Cultural District, Halsey North, Alice North, and Ralph Burgard facilitated the creation of a dynamic working plan that has guided Montgomery County for 10 years+ and is still viable!

Others:

• Irving, TX, 1999: Facilitated a broad-based public process and develop a community cultural plan.

• Nashville, TN, 1995: Co-facilitated cultural planning conference.
• Asheville, NC, 1991-92: Developed a cultural action plan to maximize cultural funding.
• Scranton, PA, 1988-89: Oversaw development of a cultural plan by staff of Scranton Arts Project.
• Fort Worth, TX, 1987-88: Created a cultural plan, which redefined the Arts Council's role.
• Memphis, TN, 1983: Developed cultural action plan to create private/public sector funding partnership.
• Chattanooga, TN, 1981: With Allied Arts of Greater Chattanooga, cultural planning for the primary arts organization + endowment drive which raised $6,000,000, exceeding goal of $4,500,000.
• Atlanta, GA, 1980: With Metro Arts, feasibility study + cultural plan to establish new fundraising support system for 125 developing cultural organizations.
